TRAVEL TIPS

Timing and Precautions

Distances on the peninsula are not that great, so it's certainly possible to drive the roughly 120-km (75-mile) loop in a day, visiting a few sights of interest to you. It's equally possible, and far more rewarding, to spend three days here, either moving slowly around the peninsula and staying in a different guesthouse each night or returning to a central spot in the Southern Suburbs or town at the end of each day. Just remember, however, that during peak season (generally mid-November–mid-January) and holidays, traffic can keep you gridlocked for many frustrating hours. Although touring the peninsula poses no obvious danger, you are advised not to park or walk alone in isolated areas. And watch out for baboons at Cape Point. If you're carrying food, they invite themselves to lunch and can be highly aggressive—the result of human folly.
